Kyanite is a typically blue aluminosilicate mineral, found in aluminum-rich metamorphic pegmatites and sedimentary rock. Its name comes from the same origin as that of the color cyan being derived from the Ancient Greek word κύανος. This is generally rendered into English as kyanos or kuanos and means "dark blue". Aside from being a semiprecious gemstone, Kyanite is used primarily in ceramic products, including porcelain plumbing and dishware. It is also used in electronics.

While Ruby is one of the traditional cardinal gems, together with amethyst, sapphire, emerald, and diamond. The word ruby comes from ruber, Latin for red. The color of a ruby is due to the element chromium.
